Apparently these ads (yesterday’s and today’s) were Superbowl ads. We hope those who saw them will still get a chuckle and those who didn’t – like us – will enjoy much.

Just goes to show how resourceful a squirrel can be. There are some 280 species of squirrel. Ground and tree squirrels are diurnal; and ground squirrels are social beings, while tree squirrels are solitary monks. Flying squirrels are nocturnal. And there you have it – the sleep habits of other than cats – in a nutshell, so to speak. Unlike the feline, our resident tree squirrel never imposes on our work by day or sleep by night.
THE SQUIRREL WHO STOPPED TRAFFIC
THE HUMAN was about to turn on Whipple Avenue, a main drag leading to a freeway. I stopped to check for cars before turning right. Less than a half-block up, all the cars had stopped. Why? Finally I saw it: a tiny squirrel sitting in the middle of the street. People were gathering, having left their cars to find out what was going on. No one beeped a horn. No one shouted. No one cursed in anger. Amazing! Such uncharacteristic behavior for commute time.
Since there were no cars behind me on the side street, I sat on the corner waiting to see what would happen. No one moved to pick him up, fearing a bite or disease I would think. I imagined that as the crowd got bigger, the poor baby must have become more and more frightened and frozen in place. Finally, a worker with gloves came and scooped the poor thing up. A huge rough and tumble sort of fellow, he was petting it and cooing to it as he walked away, clearly delighted and totally unselfconscious. As drivers got back in their cars and started down the street, I made my right turn with a big smile. What a delightful moment frozen in time: human beings at their kind and courteous best and the power of a tiny creature to stop a big world.

Happy Tuesday! With everything going on in the world, we thought we’d just present a little pick-me-up for today. Besides, we love squirrels.
