THE ELEPHANT SONG by Kamahl

“Tears …”

We know that Kamahl is singing the song, but we’re not sure that he wrote it. We could not find an author cited anywhere.

THE ELEPHANT SONG

Tell me said the elephant
Tell me brothers if you can
Why all the world is full of creatures
Yet we grow in fear of man
Tell me said the elephant
tell me why this has to be
we have to run from man the hunter
never safe and never free

refrain:

people kill without regret
although they fly by jumbo-jet
let the word of man remember
let the children not forget.

Gentle is the elephant
Pulling loads and everything
we love to hear the children laughing
when we’re in the circus-ring
Happy was the elephant
Happy was his jungle life
and then they came,
the cruel hunter with a rifle and a knife

refrain:…

Listen, please listen, said the elephant
if we want the world we know, to stay alive
Then man and beast, we must work together
And together we will survive

Listen said the elephant
It is conservation time
So take the warning when we trumpet
For the future of mankind

THE DOLPHIN IN THE MIRROR

“”I never met a dolphin I didn’t like …. I never met a dolphin.”

THE DOLPHIN IN THE MIRROR

by

Dianna Reiss

THE DOLPHINS IN THE MIRROR is an homage to dolphins and an education for us. It tells of dolphin creativity, playfulness, self-awareness, and ability to communicate with humans. The author is also know as The Dolphin Whisperer. Her book is the antidote to the practices we learned about in The Cove, a documentary film that investigates the cruel and barbaric killing customs in a cove near Taijii in Japan, practices that also pose health-risks to humans. You can watch The Cove for free HERE.

LITTLE MIRACLES FOR CRITER LOVERS

“Sounds like my kinda’ show …”

Yes indeed. Nat Geo Wild debuts Miracle Babies, a show about endangered species and the folks who are working to ensure their survival. It airs on Tuesday night, September 13.

These are special babies — more than just adorable, they are critically important to the survival of their species. Nat Geo WILD takes viewers around the world to follow dedicated people working to save them. Each animal they raise to adulthood is a step away from extinction, with the ultimate challenge to return them to the wild. We’ll see ambitious programs to save diverse species from the outback of Australia, the savannahs of East Africa, the Brazilian Amazon and some of the most successful zoo breeding programs in the world. BONOBO HANDSHAKE …

“What exactly does that mean? Nobody REALLY hurts the females or infants …”

A young woman follows her fiancé to war-torn Congo to study extremely endangered bonobo apes—who teach her a new truth about love and belonging.

In 2005, Vanessa Woods accepted a marriage proposal from a man she barely knew and agreed to join him on a research trip to the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo. Settling in at a bonobo sanctuary in Congo’s capital, Vanessa and her fiancé entered the world of a rare ape with whom we share 98.7% of our DNA. Vanessa soon discovered that bonobos live in a peaceful society in which females are in charge, war is nonexistent, and sex is as common and friendly as a handshake. GORILLA WARFARE

“A family visit to the zoo proved more entertaining than usual at the Gorilla Enclosure. The Silverback started trouble and bit off more than he could chew with the females and juveniles. Scary stuff and pretty funny too!” kirkwylde04

Not quite a peaceful kingdom . . .

Gypsy does have her biases, and it would indeed appear that the battle of the sexes is not solely the reserve of the human animal.
