“A piglet named Wilber . . . he’s too cute. I want one . . . rather have a piglet than a dog . . . can I, huh?”

The piglet hails from Bringelly, New South Wales. So, as near as I can tell, he was at Renbury Farm Animal Shelter. Despite the name, they seem to have mostly dogs and cats. Wilber is not on their current list of animals available for adoption, though they do have a rabbit as of this writing.
Pigs are even-toed ungulates. In the past we’ve read that they are intelligent animals. City folks, we’ve never known one, so we can’t say. What we read recently that we think is interesting is that pigs figure strongly in mythologies. In ancient Egypt they were sacrificed to the moon on the night of the full moon. In ancient Greece, they were sacrificed to the goddess, Demeter. In Norse Mythology, Freyr rode the boar, Gullinbursti, to Baldr’s funeral. So far everything we’ve found points to their mostly being sacrificed, not worshiped.

In the U.S. there’s what looks to be a great pig sanctuary, Pig Pals Sanctuary, Pet Pigs, Pot Bellied Pig Resource Center. The site has a wealth of information on caring for companion pigs.

Wilbur sure is cute. I noticed how well he could already tear up the grass with his little snout. xoxo
OMG, we want one too! Jina’s with Gypsy…much more appropriate playmate than our overly-exuberant German Shepherd Dog
