He loves to eat veggies but likes bananas and apples better! You will see him using his little pincher to eat with. Then you will see him change into a different shell. That was the first time I ever got to see it! So when it happened I wasn’t paying attention and the camera was a little off! lol Then at the end you will see him eating again! In some places it’s blurry, my camera wouldn’t keep it in focused! Courtesy of video poster.

We had several “crab babies” and just loved them. However, there’s a trick, I think, to raising them successfully and we weren’t able to do so. We don’t try anymore. Don’t want to torture the dear creatures.

He’s very modest, isn’t he? That was lovely to watch, was he eating banana or cucumber?
Banana, I think. They’re actually quite darling. If they don’t find a shell they’re comfortable with and they are “undressed” for too long, they die. I’ve not seen one get comfortable so quickly. That’s what intrigued me about this little guy.
I’ve never seen a hermit crab change his shirt before. Very cool. I wonder if they they need a bigger shell because they grow. Makes me think about picking up shells from the beach in a whole new way. You might be taking the (future) shirt right off a crab’s back, so to speak.
Yes, that’s exactly it. They are dear little creatures.
That was incredibly fascinating! What a great catch on video by the crab owner! They are such awkward but endearing little creatures!
I couldn’t believe she caught that. Amazing! What luck. ….
